" Subject-- Objection to the news item appearing on page 16

(2 December 1998) of the Myanmar Alin newspaper with the caption "

Moulmeingyun township NLD - dissolved"

1. The fact that all the daily newspapers published in Myanmar are

rigidly monitored and completely under the control of the authorities

cannot be denied by anyone.

2. In the Myanmar Alin daily newspaper (2 December 1998) the news about

the Irrawaddy Division is captioned "Moulmeingyun township NLD

dissolved". The contents of the article relates only to resignations of

the membership.

3. It is observed that the caption does not accurately describe the

situation as set out in the text of the article. This is a reflection of

the deliberate mean and vindictive attitude of the publication for which

the controlling authorities will have to take full responsibility.

4. The National League for Democracy strongly protests such

publications"
