The Miriam Segal Case

In 1996, Peregrine Investment Holdings of Hong Kong filed a suit alleging that Miriam Marshall Segal, the head of its Burma subsidiary had conspired with several persons, including the regime's Minister of Forestry, to defraud the firm.   This colorful case illustrates basic problems on the absence of the rule of law in Burma in the context of international investment.
